The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) praised the efforts of Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani, expressing its happiness at the lifting of the ban on Sulaymaniyah International Airport.
Karwan Kazni, a PUK spokesperson, said in a statement issued on Thursday (October 9, 2025) on behalf of the party: "We commend the efforts of His Excellency the President of the Region and express our happiness at the news of the lifting of the ban on Sulaymaniyah International Airport."
Kazni added that they are pleased to "announce the resumption of flights at a time when the name of Sulaymaniyah Airport is officially changed to Jalal Talabani International Airport."
The PUK spokesperson emphasized that the party "strives tirelessly to consolidate peace in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the region."
He pointed out that "this historical legacy of the Union and the diplomatic efforts of Pavel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, in making the peace process a success and making Sulaymaniyah a platform for implementing the peace process on the ground, served as a roadmap for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan."
