Tripartite meeting in Baghdad to resume Kurdistan oil exports

Tripartite meeting in Baghdad to resume Kurdistan oil exports
Kurdish media sources reported on Sunday (September 21, 2025) that a tripartite meeting was held in Baghdad between the Kurdistan Region, Baghdad, and oil companies to resume oil exports.

According to the sources monitored by Baghdad Today, "a meeting will be held at the Iraqi Ministry of Oil building between the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Ministry, and the oil companies."

They added that "the meeting is scheduled to resolve the concerns and obstacles regarding the resumption of oil exports between the three parties."

On Wednesday, September 17, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani confirmed that the Kurdistan Regional Government had fulfilled all its constitutional obligations and duties and demonstrated unprecedented flexibility regarding the obstacles and technical problems that have long been used as a pretext for not sending salaries. Accordingly, the Council emphasized that these issues should not stand in the way of disbursing the dues of litigants, as this is their legal and legitimate right, emphasizing the federal government's obligation to send their salaries.

Cabinet Secretary Amanj Rahim then presented a report detailing the latest joint proposal between the federal government and the regional government to expedite the resumption of regional oil exports. The proposal was approved by the federal cabinet on Tuesday, after the regional cabinet had previously approved it and sent it to the federal government.

According to the new understanding, and in implementation of the decision of the two sides' cabinets to hand over all oil produced in the region to the State Oil Marketing Organization (SOMO) (except for the amount used for domestic consumption), this phase is contingent on the signing of a tripartite agreement on oil exports.
