Iraqi Foreign Minister from Ankara: We look forward to more water releases in the coming period.
Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein announced on Friday (October 10, 2025) that the primary objective of his visit to Turkey was "the water issue, how to manage it, and the challenges affecting it."

During a joint press conference with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in the Turkish capital, Ankara, Hussein said that the two sides "reached an understanding on two water-related objectives: the first is a long-term framework agreement on water management and the Turkish role, and the second is an immediate one related to the critical water situation in southern Iraq."

The Iraqi minister invited his Turkish counterpart to visit Baghdad to sign the framework agreement on water "soon."

Fidan also announced the existence of a joint committee with Iraq closely monitoring the water issue and continuously exploring ways to secure water quotas. He added that water scarcity is a common problem facing Turkey and Iraq.
