Cycling Federation: The Arab Championship enhances Iraq's ability to host international events.
The Iraqi Cycling Federation is preparing to host an exceptional edition of the Arab Cycling Championship, which will be hosted by Sulaymaniyah Governorate from October 2nd to 10th. Seven Arab countries and more than 200 athletes will participate.
The head of the Iraqi Cycling Federation, Ali Hamid, said, "The federation has developed a comprehensive plan for hosting sporting championships. Last year's Arab Championship was scheduled to be held in Sulaymaniyah, but it was postponed after some Arab countries withdrew. The current date has been set."
Hamid added, "This hosting represents a major challenge after a 45-year hiatus. The last Arab Championship hosted by Iraq was in Baghdad in 1980. It is an important opportunity to showcase Iraq's ability to host Arab, continental, and international championships, in addition to strengthening Arab solidarity through sports and supporting youth and people with special needs to demonstrate their presence among their brothers."
He pointed out that "participation will include Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Bahrain, the UAE, Qatar, Palestine, and Lebanon, after some countries were unable to attend due to financial circumstances."
Hamid continued, "Despite the challenges presented by the long hiatus in organizing such tournaments and the lack of necessary equipment, we have provided advanced equipment, such as timing devices. A new road has also been designated, opening for the first time for the race, along with transportation and nearby hotels. The main hotel is located no more than five kilometers from the race route."
Hamid emphasized that "the Federation is keen to present a distinctive edition that reflects Iraq's true image and strongly returns it to the arena of hosting Arab sporting events."
