Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani called for the formation of a bilateral private sector council between Iraq and Switzerland. This came during his reception of an official delegation from the Swiss Confederation, headed by Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis and President of the National Council, Maja Rinecker, in the presence of the Swiss Ambassador to Iraq.
The Prime Minister's Media Office said in a statement on Thursday (October 23, 2025), that "the meeting discussed the overall bilateral relations between Iraq and Switzerland and ways to strengthen them in various fields."
According to the statement, al-Sudani emphasized that "Iraq is currently witnessing an unprecedented urban and economic renaissance." He called on Swiss companies and international financial institutions to actively contribute to the development partnership, work to form a bilateral private sector council between Iraq and Switzerland, and seize the opportunities created by the Development Road project."
He added, "Iraq has overcome the threats of terrorism with a great victory, and today enjoys stability and security. It has also maintained a clear and principled stance on the conflicts taking place in the region, especially regarding the aggression against Gaza." He noted that "democratic construction in Iraq is moving towards achieving all entitlements and involving all segments and factions of society."
For their part, members of the Swiss delegation expressed their "appreciation for the Iraqi government's efforts to consolidate stability and prevent the spread of conflicts in the region, as well as the remarkable economic progress and the acceleration of development, which enhances Iraq's international standing and consolidates its pivotal role in confronting challenges."
