Al-Sudani directs Mosul Airport to operate domestically "only" starting in November.
Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has directed that Mosul Airport be operated, starting November 1, for domestic flights only to other Iraqi airports, pending the finalization of the contract with the operating company.

The Prime Minister's media office stated in a statement on Sunday (October 26, 2025), that "the requirements for the airport to obtain an operating license from the Civil Aviation Authority are currently being finalized, and it will be operated internally on a temporary basis, through the self-management efforts of the Airports Administration for flights between the governorates."

The statement indicated that "the Ministry of Transport and the Nineveh Governorate, under the direction of the Prime Minister, have reached the final stages of negotiations with specialized international companies to prepare the airport to receive international flights, serving citizens and travelers from within and outside the country."

Previously, Nineveh Governor Abdul Qadir al-Dakhil announced that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani had directed the temporary operation of Mosul International Airport for domestic flights, starting November 1, through the Civil Aviation Authority, pending the finalization of the contract with the company operating international flights.

According to a statement from his media office, Al-Dakhil explained that this decision comes within the framework of accelerating the airport's operations and easing the burden on Nineveh's residents, stressing that "the government is seeking to prepare all technical and administrative procedures to ensure the launch of domestic flights soon, in preparation for a subsequent transition to regular international flights after the official contract with the operating company is completed."
