19 migrants killed off the Libyan coast
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced on Friday that the bodies of 19 people were recovered after a rubber boat carrying migrants sank off the eastern coast of Libya.
An IOM spokesperson confirmed that the boat, carrying more than 70 Sudanese and South Sudanese nationals, set sail on September 9 from a beach near the Libyan town of Kambut and sank the same day.

The IOM said that a total of 14 people were rescued five days after the boat sank, while 42 others remain missing.

It is unclear how these survivors managed to survive at sea for such a long time. Libya is a major transit point for migrants trying to reach Europe, fleeing war and poverty in Africa and the Middle East.
