Iraqi Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari arrived in Portugal on Friday to participate in the ministerial conference on strengthening security cooperation.
A statement from the ministry, reported by Iraq Times Agency, said that "Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari arrived in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon, to participate in the ministerial conference of the European Union, the Middle East, and North Africa, which aims to enhance security cooperation and develop joint coordination mechanisms to confront regional and international challenges."
The statement added that "Portuguese Interior Minister Maria Lucia received the Interior Minister upon his arrival at Lisbon International Airport and welcomed his participation in this international forum," emphasizing "the importance of the role Iraq plays in consolidating regional security and international partnerships."
The statement explained that "al-Shammari's attendance comes in response to an official invitation. The conference sessions will discuss key issues related to combating terrorism and organized crime, exchanging information and expertise, as well as developing security cooperation among the participating countries."
It continued, "The Interior Minister will meet with a number of his counterparts and senior European officials to discuss ways to develop security relations and open new horizons for cooperation that serve security and stability in Iraq and the region."
