From Al-Rusafi to Abu Nuwas: Government initiative to revive the second axis of Al-Rashid Street
Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani directed on Sunday that efforts continue at the same pace to complete the first phase of Rashid Street.

The Prime Minister's Media Office stated in a press release that "Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani chaired a meeting on Sunday regarding the development and rehabilitation of the second phase of Rashid Street, which extends from al-Rasafi Square to the beginning of Abu Nawas Street. The meeting was attended by the Mayor of Baghdad, the Governor of the Central Bank, and a number of advisors and relevant officials." The statement added that "the meeting reviewed the steps for the second phase of the Rashid Street rehabilitation project, which covers approximately 3.5 kilometers, starting from Maarouf al-Rasafi Square and extending to the new Italian Hospital, in addition to the rehabilitation of 183 government and private buildings."

The statement further noted that "the meeting discussed mechanisms for addressing the administrative and technical obstacles related to the project, as well as a plan for developing the Bataween area in a way that will make Baghdad comparable to other tourist capitals around the world." The Prime Minister directed that efforts continue at the same pace to complete the first section of Rashid Street, and that the experiences and expertise gained be utilized to complete the second section. He explained that the rehabilitation and development work reflects the government's great interest in Baghdad's archaeological and heritage sites.

He pointed to the importance of the Rashid Street rehabilitation project for Iraqis and their expression of joy at the completion of the first phase, emphasizing the priority of proceeding with the completion of projects in historical areas of Baghdad and gradually expanding these projects to other parts of the city.
