Weather forecaster Sadiq Attiya warned today, Friday, January 9, 2026, of heavy rainfall and strong, dust-raising winds as a frontal low-pressure system moves across the country.
In a post on his Facebook page, which was monitored by the Iraq Times Agency, Attiya stated that "the sky is now overcast with the approach of the low-pressure front, creating unsettled weather throughout the day." He indicated that "the chances of heavy rainfall are very high, accompanied by lightning and thunder."
He added that "the country will experience rapid fluctuations in the direction and speed of surface winds, leading to dust storms in several areas." He noted that "the chances of rain in the southern cities will improve during the night, falling in the form of brief showers."
Attiya confirmed that "the unstable weather conditions will continue until tomorrow, Saturday," pointing out that satellite images this morning, Friday, showed the density of clouds associated with the low-pressure system.
