French-Italian actress Claudia Cardinale, a giant of 1960s cinema, has passed away at the age of 87 at her residence in the suburbs of Paris.
Cardinale's manager, Laurent Savery, said the star passed away "surrounded by her children" in Nemours, near Paris, where she lived, but did not indicate the cause of her death.
Savery said in a text message that Cardinale, who starred in films by prominent directors such as Luchino Visconti, Federico Fellini, Richard Brooks, Henri Verneuil, and Sergio Leone, "leaves behind the legacy of a free and inspired woman, both as an artist and as a woman."
He explained that the date and location of her funeral have not yet been determined.
