Rubio to Al-Sudani: A government dominated by Iran will not put Iraq's interests first.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio asserted that an Iraqi government "dominated by Iran" cannot prioritize Iraq's own interests, keep Iraq out of regional conflicts, or foster a mutually beneficial partnership between the United States and Iraq.

This came during a phone call with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, in which they discussed the transfer of ISIS detainees to Iraq and the ongoing government formation process, according to a statement from the US State Department.

Rubio commended the Iraqi government's initiative and its leadership role in expediting the transfer and detention of ISIS terrorists in secure facilities within Iraq, following the recent unrest in northeastern Syria.
