Oil prices fell on Wednesday (February 18, 2026) as progress in talks between Iran and the United States raised hopes for a de-escalation of tensions between the two countries and reduced the risk of disruptions to crude supplies.
Brent crude futures slipped 0.05% to $67.40 a barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures fell 0.08% to $62.28. Both benchmarks were trading near two-week lows.
Iran said on Tuesday that it had reached an understanding with the United States on guiding principles in talks aimed at resolving their long-running nuclear dispute, but this did not mean an agreement was imminent.
Meanwhile, the Eurasia Group, a political consultancy, said on Tuesday that it saw a 65% chance of the United States launching strikes against Iran by the end of April.
