The United States announces the resumption of uranium enrichment.
US Energy Secretary Christopher Wright announced the resumption of uranium enrichment in the United States, with the participation of French companies.

Wright stated during a speech at a conference held at the French Institute of International Relations in Paris: "We will resume uranium enrichment in the United States, in part, in partnership with American and French companies."

The previous US administration, under President Joe Biden, had announced plans in February 2024 to resume the production of highly enriched uranium.

Former administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration at the US Department of Energy, Jill Hrubey, also indicated that a "coordinated strategy for uranium enrichment for civilian nuclear reactors and future military needs" had been developed.

According to estimates by Western experts from non-governmental organizations, the US stockpile of highly enriched uranium reached approximately 481 tons by early 2024.
