Trump gives Iran two options: open the Strait of Hormuz or face the consequences within two days.
US President Donald Trump has once again warned Iran, giving it a 48-hour ultimatum to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, threatening that "hell will come" if it fails to comply, according to the US news website Axios.

The website reported on Sunday (April 5, 2026) that the warning comes as a previous 10-day deadline is about to expire, amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran over the strait, one of the world's most important energy chokepoints.

According to the report, Trump hinted at military options, including targeting Iranian infrastructure, particularly the oil, energy, and water sectors, should an agreement not be reached, reflecting a more aggressive tone in US rhetoric.

Axios noted that the US administration believes that the continued closure or disruption of navigation in the strait will lead to significant instability in global energy markets, at a time when prices are already under increasing pressure.

In response, Tehran refused to negotiate under duress, describing the US statements as "psychological warfare," and reaffirming its position, further increasing the likelihood of escalation in the region.

The report also indicated that indirect channels of communication remain in place, but efforts to hold direct negotiations between the two sides have not yet made progress, amid fears that the situation could escalate into a wider confrontation.
