The Iraqi Football Association is close to finalizing the contract renewal for national team coach Graham Arnold, aiming to maintain the team's stability and continue its development in the coming period.
Youssef Faal, the association's media officer, stated in a press release that "negotiations with Arnold are progressing well and have reached an advanced stage." He explained that "both sides are currently working on completing some administrative and logistical details in preparation for the official signing."
He added that "the final decision will be made next Wednesday," anticipating an announcement of the renewal within the next few days "given the strong understanding between the two parties and their shared desire to continue working together."
Faal denied "reports circulating in some media outlets and on social media regarding stalled negotiations or the existence of alternative candidates to succeed Arnold," emphasizing that "this information is incorrect, and the association has not entered into any negotiations with other coaches."
He pointed out that "Arnold now possesses extensive knowledge of the Iraqi player's capabilities and the local football situation, which strengthens his chances of continuing with the national team," adding that "the federation is confident in his ability to continue leading the team and achieving further successes."
The federation's move to renew Arnold's contract comes after his success in leading the national team to the 2026 World Cup finals. The "Lions of Mesopotamia" have important commitments ahead, most notably the Gulf Cup (Gulf 27) and the 2027 AFC Asian Cup, in addition to other international competitions.
