In an interview with Axios, Trump stated that he would not give the negotiations "much time," indicating that if they failed, "we will return to strong military action" against Iran.
He noted that the United States is currently engaged in "very in-depth negotiations with Iran."
He added, "I don't have much time. It's either going very quickly or it's not going at all."
Trump explained that he decided to suspend the attacks on Iran because mediators requested a chance for negotiations, saying, "All of the people in charge of dealing with Iran asked me to stop the firing."
Commenting on his reasons for agreeing to the mediators' request, the US president said, "We gained nothing and we lost nothing," referring to the drop in oil prices and the rise in the stock market after he suspended the attacks.
Trump reiterated his belief that Tehran wants to reach an agreement.
