Washington: The oil agreement between Baghdad and the region will support Iraq's sovereignty and energy security.
The US State Department welcomed the reopening of the Iraq-Turkey oil pipeline on Thursday.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, "Washington welcomes the announcement that the government in Baghdad has reached an agreement with the Kurdistan Regional Government and international companies to reopen the Iraq-Turkey pipeline."

Rubio added, "The agreement was facilitated by the United States and will bring tangible benefits to both Americans and Iraqis." He praised "the decisive efforts of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and senior Iraqi government officials, as well as Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and senior KRG officials."

He noted that "the agreement will strengthen the economic partnership and mutual benefit between the United States and Iraq, encourage a more stable investment environment across Iraq for American companies, enhance regional energy security, and support Iraqi sovereignty."

Earlier on Thursday, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani announced a historic agreement to export Kurdistan oil through Iraq and Turkey.

Al-Sudani tweeted on the X platform, "Today, we reached a historic agreement under which the Federal Ministry of Oil will receive crude oil produced from fields located in the Kurdistan Region."

He added, "It will be exported via the Iraq-Turkey pipeline. This ensures the equitable distribution of wealth, diversifies export outlets, and encourages investment."
