Renowned Nepalese climber Nirmal Purja and nine other climbers died in an avalanche in Pakistan, where they were on an expedition.
Reuters quoted Elite Exped, a tour company, as saying that Purja and his companions died "tragically" in an avalanche on Broad Peak, located in the Karakoram Mountains on the border between Pakistan and China. The tragedy began when they were trapped by a collapsed mass of snow around midday on Thursday on Broad Peak, a 8,051-meter peak and the 12th highest mountain in the world, considered one of the most challenging peaks in Pakistan's Gilgit-Baltistan region.
The 43-year-old Nepalese climber, Nirmal Purja, had previously set a record in 2019 for the fastest ascent of the world's 14 highest mountain peaks, achieving this feat in just six months.
He gained international fame after the Netflix documentary "14 Summits: No Impossible" was released, chronicling his journey.
Due to an avalanche, a famous climber and nine others, including an Arab woman, died.
