With the United States closing the door to negotiations due to Iran's insistence on its conditions and positions, the situation appears poised for escalation. Informed Iranian sources revealed that Tehran is considering targeting American military sites in Europe should US President Donald Trump escalate the conflict.
Two sources familiar with Iranian decision-making circles told the Financial Times that Iranian forces have assessed the option of striking American military assets in southeastern European countries, such as Bulgaria, which last month agreed to allow the use of the Bezmar air base for refueling American aircraft.
It is worth noting that Washington previously accused Tehran of launching several missiles toward the joint US-British military base on Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean, some 4,000 kilometers away, though none of them reached their target.
Furthermore, Turkey announced last March that NATO air defense systems intercepted several ballistic missiles launched from Iran, while the British air base at Akrotiri in Cyprus was attacked by a drone in the same month. Western officials said at the time that they suspected it was an Iranian drone launched by forces allied with Tehran in the region, not directly by Iran.
