Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Tuesday that the situation at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which is occupied by Russia, has become critical, as Russian shelling has prevented efforts to restore the plant's external power lines.
In his nightly address via video link, Zelenskyy added that one of the diesel generators that provides emergency power has been shut down, seven days after the external power lines were cut off.
"We are on the seventh day. The Zaporizhzhia plant has never experienced such an emergency. The situation is extremely serious. The Russian shelling has disconnected the plant from the electricity grid," he said.
