US Energy Secretary: US government shutdown threatens nuclear weapons
US Energy Secretary Chris Wright asserted that the US government shutdown threatens nuclear weapons safety, and blamed Democrats for causing it.

"We have about eight days of funding left for the National Nuclear Security Administration, which oversees our nuclear weapons stockpile, the engines that power our nuclear submarines, and aircraft carriers," Wright told Fox News.

He added that after that, the administration would be forced to resort to emergency measures, posing a threat to the country.

He accused Democrats of prolonging this process and the entire government shutdown by delaying important votes.

The US government partially shut down on October 1 after Republicans and Democrats failed to agree on a budget for the next fiscal year.
